Hello and welcome!

First post to my new blog.

My name is Jaime. I am a 31 year old single mom raising a beautiful 5 (she's almost 6) year old daughter with disabilities. I recently lost my job in April. It wasn't a layoff. The issue was that my daughter was scheduled for major surgery and I needed at least 3-5 weeks off to care for her. Unfortunately, I was only at my job for only 5 months and not protected under FMLA, so they were only willing to give me a week off. I decided my daughter's health is most important and decided to part ways. The funny thing? I worked in the medical field. It's ok. Why? When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right?

Here's my lemonade. My daughter's surgery needed to be rescheduled because she came down with the flu and it's rescheduled to July 16th. Well, at this point, there is no need to look for work. I will start looking again at the beginning of August and if I don't find anything by mid-August, I will finish my degree. Until then, I am going to blog about a passion of mine. BOOKS!

I am the youngest of 9 children and before I even began kindergarten, I was reading at a 3rd to 4 grade level. I love to read. I love being carried off into worlds unknown, to adventures, to sadness, to happiness, life, death, successes, failures, dreams, to all things imaginable.

I am not a literary snob. I read everything for DH Lawrence to Tolstoy to Dan Brown to Neil Gaiman to Jodi Picoult. I will blog about books of past to new books.

Talk about some delicious lemonade, don't you think? Might as well brush up on my reading and writing skills. Just based on rereading this post, I need it!

Thank you,
Jaime AKA The Book Nerd

  1. I am sorry to hear about you being made redundant for such a reason as your daughter's health. It seems so unfair to me. I am also very sorry to hear that your daughter, such a small little thing, has got to go through all that.

I do like your positive spirit, you sound like a stong woman, and that's just was your little girl needs. I can tell you love and care for her very much.

Take care, and I will be following you to see how you and your daughter get on.

Love the blog, and your reviews are great.

    Hugs

  2. Hi Sassy,

I guess it was definitely a bummer situation but I feel confident that things will get back to how it was before and it will just take a lot of work!

I feel that there is no need to dwell on the bad and to take the opportunity and make it into something that works!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate it!

    Hugs back to ya!
