Jaime Loves Stuff : The Lovely Bones GIVEAWAY!!!

The Lovely Bones GIVEAWAY!!!

Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (from Hatchette Book Group):

Once in a generation a novel comes along that taps a vein of universal human experience, resonating with readers of all ages. THE LOVELY BONES is such a book -- a #1 bestseller celebrated at once for its artistry, for its luminous clarity of emotion, and for its astonishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of readers around the world.

"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973."

So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on earth continue without her -- her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling. Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, THE LOVELY BONES succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

The major motion picture version of THE LOVELY BONES, directed by Peter Jackson and starring Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, and Saoirse Ronan is scheduled for release on December 11, 2009.

Alice Sebold is the author of three #1 bestselling books, the novels The Lovely Bones and The Almost Moon and the memoir Lucky. She lives in California with her husband, the novelist Glen David Gold.

  6. I wish Blood and Chocolate had never been made into a movie. Seriously, the book was so good! Why did they have to make a horrible movie of it?

  11. Ok, to answer the question the movie that I wish had never been made into a movie was called Bless the Child - the book by far better than the movie - it seemed to cut out most of the book!

I would love to win this book!

  15. I would LOVE it if The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer became a movie. Only if it became a REALLY good movie though. Not if they f-ed it up. I would hate that so much :(

  18. I would die to see Outlander made into a *good* movie! But I'd be really mad if it was made into a cheesy series or something. LOL

Eragon could have been a really good movie, but the people who did it did a horrible job. :(

  19. I would love to see Patricia Briggs book "Moon Called" made into a series. I think the whole Mercy Thompson series would make better material for movies than the Twilight series.

    Thanks for the opportunity! Indigo

  20. I'm not sure if this has been made into a movie or not, or at least not recently.

I would like to see Faulkner's novel, The Sound and the Fury, made into a movie, though admittedly it would be as difficult for the movie to capture the time shifts/stream of consciousness as it is for the book.

Also, though not a book, the short story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find," by Flannery O'Connor.

As far as bad movies from good books, there are probably too many to mention. Just a few: The Great Gatsby, even with Robert Redford, was not what I had hoped; the second "Shining" movie was garbage (same for the second "Poseidon Adventure" movie), compared with both the book and the first movie.

    Thank you!

  21. Oh a movie that shouldn't have been made was the Davinci code. I didn't like it at all and I didn't think it did the book justice.

  23. Under the Tuscan Sun should never have been made into a movie. Francis Mayes's poetic account could never be captured on film, and the whole storyline was changed and made up.
