Ahhh mornings. They're so much fun, right? *crickets* I guess they aren't. Mornings are full of rushing around and trying to get out the door in time. Sadly, most of the time, we make it out the door with an empty stomach and a rush through a drive-thru. I have chatted about this previously about my struggle with trying to eat breakfast at home because not only is better for you, it's less expensive. I try to find ways to get something in both mine and Emma's stomachs before she goes to her morning physical, occupational and speech therapies. Since her therapies are so early in the morning (7 am), I thought making a morning smoothie with Nestle Nesquik and Carnation Breakfast Essentials I picked up at Walmart.
Who doesn't love chocolate? Well...if you don't, you're not anybody I know. haha. I am kidding but seriously, chocolate for breakfast? Yes, please.
Emma is a huge chocoholic. She was really excited to try out the smoothie. Little did she know that it had oatmeal blended in it to give extra fiber. Not that she would care anyways...
When I was planning this breakfast smoothie out, my mind was on fast, easy and something that could be made ahead the night before so it's ready to go when we are. Therapy is grueling for Emma and she needs to have something in her stomach before getting started or she won't have the fuel she needs to get through the hour. We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and at least, this smoothie will tide us both over until we can get a full breakfast in us or in my case, this tides me over until my mid-morning break at work and then I can eat breakfast at work.
Besides, I want to have less time being harried and frustrated and more time just loving. One less thing to worry about makes for a happier day for the both of us.
This is really easy. I literally threw everything in my bullet blender and we were ready to roll.
Chocolate Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
1/2 cups of rolled oats
1 banana (I cut it into slices)
2 packets of Carnation Breakfast Essentials (Milk Chocolate)
1 tbsp. of Nesquik
2 cups of milk
Optional: 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (I put peanut butter into Emma's before physical therapy)
1. Put all ingredients into blender (if you wish to add peanut butter, you can add it at this time) and blend.
2. Pour into cups.
3. Consume immediately or refrigerate overnight to enjoy in the morning.
4. Take over the world because nothing can stop you now!
How do you fuel your mornings?
