Three day weekends rock but I am so greedy- they aren't long enough! I demand FOUR day weekends! I am glad that the Fourth of July fell on a Friday! I was able to get so much done prior to the time to head out for fireworks. I was worried they might get cancelled because on Thursday night we got hit with a haboob (major dust storm) and some rain and they were forecasting some rain on Friday night. Granted- we will take ALLLLL the rain we can get here in Phoenix. We desperately need it! Alas, no rain on Friday BUT that meant two things: Fireworks and watermelon iced tea beverages to cool down on the hot summer days!
I went to Walmart last week and found two perfect things.
One was this Mason Jar beverage dispenser. Seriously. I had to have it!
Of course... I needed something to put IN the jar. Oh I know! Watermelon Kool-Aid in the 96 ounce bottle. Win!
Wait. Orange Kool-Aid in a squeeze bottle? *snagged and thinks to self: First watermelon tea and then orange tea*
When my brother was in Iraq, we sent them boxes of the Kool-Aid singles for him and his buddies. They were really, really popular! Easy way to flavor up water.
Phoenix is perfect for sun tea. Literally. PERFECT. The sun shines almost 365 days a year and the summer temps are extreme which brews a jug of tea in a couple of hours. So, I opted to make myself some easy, peasy watermelon tea with Kool-Aid!
I threw about 6 orange pekoe tea bags and filled it up 3/4 of the way with water and set it outside to brew. It actually only took two hours for the tea to be ready.
I filled the container the rest of the way with Watermelon Kool-Aid and 1 cup of sugar and put it all in the fridge to chill.
|Everything tastes better in a jar, right?|
Isn't she beautiful? I might be the only person on this planet who doesn't really care for ice in my drink unless it's iced coffee or fountain soda. Weird? Ha. who knows!
If you want to make individual servings, very easy - I like a ratio of 75% tea to 25% Kool-Aid. You can increase or decrease either on to your tastes!
I had planned to take Emma to the park early Friday morning but instead, she need the sleep- so slept in and we went to see the fireworks and it worked out really well. I posted on Saturday about why she hasn't been able to see the fireworks in five years here and it all worked out great!
We went to downtown Phoenix and watched the display from a mile away. I brought along my Watermelon Iced Tea and Emma had a glass of ice water. It was a such a nice night and we were able to enjoy ourselves.
Do you like to mix up Kool-Aid with other items such as Iced tea?
Did you go watch your city/town's fireworks display?
P.S. - If you are in South Carolina:
Jim Dillard, pro fisherman, could be coming to your local Walmart to help promote the new 96oz bottles! There will be product giveaways, t-shirts, games, and more fun activities!
