Humanity is good.

Humanity is good.

Humanity is good.

I truly believe most people are good.  I learned that lesson many years ago.  Over 12 years ago, my daughter was hospitalized for a SEVERE traumatic brain injury.

Croissants are my kryptonite.  I love the fresh, I love them the next day, I love them as sandwiches, I love them stuffed with Nutella, ham & cheese, you name it- I love it.   There's just something about the buttery, flakiness that just gets me every time.

Now, it's time to croissants to another level- french toast.

It's not a secret around here that movies are our jam.  I tend to call myself a movie hoarder or a movie junkie or a movie buff- depending on which way the wind blows.  My daughter is also a lover of movies and we love any opportunity to make some popcorn, wrap up in blankets and watch a movie together.  It's a great way to decompress and just spend some time together- just mother and daughter time.

One of our favorite things is making various popcorn recipes- like this one for Hot Cocoa Popcorn.

I have made several vows to get out more and enjoy more of what Arizona has to offer and become more active.  One of the best things about living in this state is the weather and how easy it is to take advantage of what there is to offer.

Since Christmas is nearly here and the weather is still perfect (low 70s!), what better time to get out and enjoy Christmas lights and events!  My sister, Em and I recently went to Glendale Glitters and it was perfect!

No black Friday shopping for me.  Well, kind of.  I did grab a few things online but... no store madness.  I just can't stomach the crowded stores and I would rather stay in and watch some Investigation Discovery.

Moana Movie Review + Slow Cooker Teriyaki Pork Tacos

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Walt Disney. I received information to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation

When I was provided the opportunity to see a screening of Moana (In 3D!), I jumped all over it.  I have been wanting to see it since the first time I see the previews.  With that came- a recipe for Teriyaki Pork Tacos.

Slow cooker teriyaki pork tacos. Perfect for Taco Tuesday. Easy and delicious. Topped with Pineapple, cilantro, red onions and jalapenos and drizzled with teriyaki sauce.

About Moana:

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

Squash is one of my all time favorite vegetables.  Wait, I think squash is technically a fruit BUT calling it a vegetable makes me feel better.  Or something like that.  I won't lie- I haven't met a squash I didn't like- acorn, Italian, zucchini, calabacita- summer, winter- I don't care.  It's all delicious to me!  I like it roasted, blended, fried, in a soup- or in as featured today, over pasta.

Top 10 Fun Game Ideas for Kids This Christmas

Growing up in a large family, my parents couldn't really afford to to buy us a lot of gifts but the one thing that was traditional was a family gift that we opened on Christmas Eve and every time, it was a new board game! We would play the new game for hours on end and it was always so much fun.  It is one of my happier memories- playing Monopoly for days on end, laughing, fighting, Mom's homemade hot cocoa and eating.

Review: Jazz Loves Disney Album

Review: Jazz Loves Disney Album
This is "Jazz Loves Disney" post is a sponsored post from Disney Music and One2One Network. All opinions are my own

Who else still remembers all the words to "The Bare Necessities" from "The Jungle Book"? I know I do and EVERY time I hear it, I start singing along and visualize Baloo and Mowgli dancing and singling.   I love that now, my daughter is experiencing the magic of Disney movies and music.  They're enduring and memorable.

Disney's latest album is absolutely magical and I am obsessed.  "Jazz Loves Disney" is an absolutely beautiful compilation of timeless songs.  The fusion of jazz with Disney classics is a masterpiece and needs to be in any music lovers collection.  The soothing voices of artists like Stacey Kent and Melody Gardot takes Disney songs to another level.  Beautiful, relaxing and it's a perfect fit to pair with a lovely merlot and a quiet evening.

How to use board games as educational tools & brain games (Plus giveaway!)
Disclaimer: Product was provided for consideration but my thoughts and opinions are my own.
Having a child with a traumatic brain injury can be very trying at times.  My daughter's right frontal lobe is gone and her left frontal lobe is damaged.  There are more parts that are damaged (parietal and temporal lobes are damaged) but the frontal lobes really cause the most problems.  The frontal lobes are the emotional control center and key to personality.  They also are key to memory, language, executive functions, thinking and focusing.  I am barely scratching the surface because I am NOT a neurologist (obviously) but I am a mom raising a child with a very damaged brain.

Since the brain injury, I have learned the importance of play and music when it comes to learning.  She has been in therapies (physical, occupational, speech and music) since she was 11 months old and is now 13.  Integrating education and rehab with playing games is so important.  Kids learn through play and finding brain games to help improve cognitive has always been a top priority.

Essential oils are a HOT topic lately.  EOs (Essential oils) are not anything new by any means but the buzz has been hot about them.  I am not well versed in them but I have used lavender EOs for calming and headache purposes.  I have also made homemade air freshener with various blends.  I have been wanting to learn more about them and dabble with them so when Simply Earth reached out to me to review their subscription box, I couldn't say no!

Why I take a daily probiotic

Health.

Aaaahhhh.  As I have gotten older, my health has become a major priority in my life.  I am TRYING to eat better, stay more active and drink more water.

I also like to add nutritional supplements to my diet.

I already take a round of multivitamins, minerals and of course, vitamin C but I have forgotten about a healthier stomach.

Since Emma's injury, I have a lot of stress.  That stress has caused me some stomach issues and I have been learning to destress and meditate.  I have decided to add a probiotic to my routine to help support digestive balance!

Easy Ways to Declutter Your Wardrobe

Easy ways to declutter your wardrobe.  If you are anything like me, you love clothes and that can be a problem.

Easy Ways to Declutter Your Wardrobe

I love clothes.  So much so, that I tend to hoard them.  *clears throat*  That means my small closet is overflowing.  It's out of control.  What makes it even more difficult is that we don't really have seasons here in Phoenix.  I mean, we DO but nothing really extreme except the super hot summers and that means you can wear most everything all year.

I have been trying to move to a much more minimalist life and have been decluttering (hence the slowing down on blogging).  I recently downsized books (oh my heart!!!) and now, am focusing on clothing.

#FightBackBetter: How to help someone fighting against breast cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and are you looking for ways to #FightBackBetter or  How to help someone fighting against breast cancer? I am sharing some tips on how to help someone who is fighting the battle against breast cancer!

#FightBackBetter: How to help someone fighting against breast cancer

This post is partnered with al fresco gourmet chicken but I was not compensated financially for this post and my desire to support breast cancer patients is on my own. Any way to support a great cause, I am always here for it!

October is my favorite month- Halloween, fall, pumpkins, sweater weather and the changing of leaves.  As the author of the Anne of Green Gables series, L.M. Montgomery, wrote "

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”   October is also a great month when it comes to awareness- there are multiple important causes that are being commemorated this month such as "Breast Cancer Awareness", "Down Syndrome Awareness", "National Bullying Awareness", "Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness" and many more!  October is an important month in so many ways.

Recently, several women I know, respect and love dearly have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It's a devastating diagnosis and even more so as all of these women are young- under 40.  My aunt lose her battle in 2013.  A dear friend of mine lost her battle at the age of 38.

For years, I called them and wrote them as "brussel" sprouts and thought autocorrect was a liar.  I knew of the city Brussels but didn't think that the aforementioned sprouts were Brussels.  It's all been a LIE all these years.  I *finally* googled it and I did the digital walk of shame.

Creative Ideas For a Great Girls Night In

Who doesn't love a good girls night in? Planning for a great night in with the girls is a blast- especially with these creative ideas for a great girls night in!

Creative Ideas For a Great Girls Night In

This post was sponsored by Colorwear as part of an In-Home Party Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

Work. Children. Significant others. Home. Life.  Whether married or single, parents or not, work outside/inside or stay at home- life is stressful.  Friendships are important and getting away from it all for a few hours with a group of amazing friends is an essential way to unwind and relax and feel great.

For awhile, I used to get together once a month with my girlfriends for a fun girls night in.  After a series of setbacks in my personal life, I shut away from everything.  I didn't realize just how much I needed those Saturday nights with the girls until I stopped going.  I don't enjoy night clubs any more but hanging out with the girls, laughing, listening to music, eating and drinking is perfection and a great respite from it all.

The goal of having "Girls Night In" restarted has been a huge priority.  Now that it's back in all its glory- here are some ideas for a creative girls night in.

1.  Food.

Food IS life, after all.  Amiright? There's nothing better than planning a theme night and each woman attending bring a side dish and the host makes the main dish.  Arrange a group email or text and have a list of three themed ideas and allow a vote!

At my recent girls night in, I made a batch of Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders (recipe here).  Each guest can bring a side dish or a drink.  It worked out fabulously!

2.  Music

Eating good food, drinking fantastic drinks and playing music while chatting and catching up with friends while making new friends.  (I always encourage the group to invite others to join us! The more the merrier, right?).  Along with a food theme night, find music that fits the theme.  Or maybe a specific decade or genre? Most of us went to high school in the 1990s and it's fun to play music from the "good ol' days".

3. Activities.

Creative Ideas For a Great Girls Night In

Picking a fun activity is a GREAT way to allow our brains to unwind and to relax.  Board games? Heck yes!  Pinterest Craft Night? Oh totally.

Coloring t-shirts? Wait! What? Yes, these DO exist and they were such a hit at my recent girls night in that I can't wait to host again.

Creative Ideas For a Great Girls Night In, Colorwear Shirts

Adult coloring books are ALL the rage and for a GOOD reason.  It's a great way to decompress and relax.

What's better than a coloring page?  A coloring SHIRT made by Colorwear (which is a new product line from the epic shirt company, The Mountain).   There are over 175 designs like mandalas, quotes, animals, etc. from popular coloring book artists (like Valentina Parker and Angela Van Dam).

Make & take.

Creative Ideas For a Great Girls Night In

I won't lie- this was one of the most relaxing evenings I have had.  I am usually so wound up and I really, really needed this.  It felt zen like and it was so soothing and every one of my guests felt the same way.
